PUBLIC OUTREACH & EDUCATION

Learn With Us

FSRA provides public presentations featuring experts in archaeology and related fields.

Lecture topics may include:

• Rock art sites within our region
• Styles and interpretation of rock imagery
• Research on linguistic patterns of western Native cultural groups
• Enhanced photographic tools such as DStretch, which help reveal image details
• Rock art and cultural traditions from regions beyond the Sierra, including Baja, Hawaii, and the Southwest

Presentations are held at the Nevada County Library in Nevada City, California.

Inspiring The Next Generation

FSRA provides educational programs for high school students and presentations for service clubs, historical societies, and other local organizations. One example is our collaboration with the Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning (SAEL) in Nevada City, where students learned about regional rock imagery and visited local sites as part of their studies.

Through this program, students explored the cultural significance of these landscapes and developed site visitation guidelines designed to encourage respectful behavior among young visitors.

In The Community

At times, FSRA participates in family-friendly community events, such as the Bear Yuba Land Trust’s Nature Fest. During these programs, children are invited to create handprints inspired by imagery found in many Native cultural traditions, offering a respectful way to connect with the idea of rock art through hands-on learning.
